Context
Globally, nearly $1 trillion is sent between borders as a remittance—sending a paycheck home to friends or family. For a migrant worker who is a new internet user, the experience of remitting money is often expensive, complicated and nerve wracking.
IDEO partnered with NOW Money, a fast growing neobank in UAE serving new-to-banking users, to design a better digital banking and money transfer experience.
I was tasked to bring in product design and strategy expertise alongside leading a team of user researchers and developers to do an end to end overhaul of the remittance experience and the home screen of the app with a focus on increasing money transfers via the app.
Utilizing computer vision and voice, the redesigned application made it easier for users to engage in moments of high input, reduced the fear of making errors and limited the reliance on data entry. We also mirrored social applications in our design of the home screen, creating confidence in the experience and simpler discoverability of features through a dynamic and personalized UI.
Impact
The designs led to a 400% increase in remittance engagement rate among NOW Money users in the UAE.
